NDLEA Arrests Journalist And 5 Others At MMIA


The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday said it has arrested a Brazil-based freelance journalist (names withheld) and a patent medicine dealer over alleged drug trafficking.

This is contained in a statement by the agency’s spokesman, Mr Mitchel Ofoyeju in Lagos.

The 25-year-old lady and the suspected dealers were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja.

According to the statement, the suspects were currently being interrogated by the NDLEA’s operatives over the drug trafficking.

President Buhari Appoints 30 Judges

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of 30 new federal high court judges across Nigeria. According to a press statement by Soji Oye, Acting Director of Information of the Nigeria Judicial Council, President Buhari endorsed the recommendation o of the NJC in appointing the judges. The new judges will be sworn in at 10 am on December 2nd, 2015 by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed.

Naira Depreciates Barely 48 Hours After It Strengthened Against The Dollar

The naira on Friday depreciated at the parallel market barely 48 hours after it strengthened against the dollar.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the naira lost N2 to exchange at N242 to the dollar, as against its previous value of N240.

Meanwhile, the official inter-bank rate remained at N197 to the dollar.

Traders at the market said that in spite of the biweekly sale of forex to Bureaux de Change (BDC’s), the currency of the biggest economy in Africa continued to slide.

Suicide Bomber Rocks Kano, Many Feared Dead

Scores were feared dead at Dakasoye village, Garun Mallam local goverment area of Kano Friday when a suicide bomber blew himself up among the Shia procession on there way to Zaria witness says.

The incident which occured by 2.00pm was said to have affected mostly women and children.

A local Journalist, Ali Kakaki who was at the scene of the blast told Vanguard that the ugly incident occured shortly after a middle aged man was caught with Improvised Explosive Device.
